WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF AN ELECTRIC BIKE?

Whether you’re at the start of your cycling journey or you’re looking to upgrade, you’ve come to the right place. Why choose a power assisted bike?

As well as offering all the benefits of a regular bike, you’ll be able to pedal further, faster and for longer. They have a small electric motor built into the frame to allow for assistance whilst pedalling. Not only does this allow you to continue to enjoy riding whilst still exercising but means you can put in as much or as little effort as you wish.

This kind of bike could also benefit those with limited mobility or with an injury.

But do I really need ane-bike?

As always, it’s all down to personal preference, whilst many cyclists enjoy the endurance cycling up hills provides, others enjoy an easier life. The additional power provided by the battery allows the rider to ride further and faster which makes them ideal for commuting or enjoying scenic rides on the weekend.

How do they work?

A battery which can usually be found within the frame of the bike supplying power to an electric motor which can be charged via a regular plug. The motor provides power assistance whilst the cyclist is pedalling easing the usual effort required. The cyclist can choose how much assistance is provided by selecting the power mode, allowing for more or less assistance.

How far can you travel on a single charge?

Whilst this number varies from bike to bike, you should expect to receive between 25 to 100 miles of pedalling power from a single charge. This will depend on the make and model of your desired bicycle, but if you have any questions, we’re always happy to help.

It’s also a common misconception that pedalling charges your battery, this isn’t the case. Once your battery has run out your bike will still function as a regular bike allowing you to ride home, however with the addition of the battery these bikes can be heavier which is worth considering when purchasing.

And how fast?

If you are pedalling, you can travel as fast as you pedal. However, typically the motor will assist you up to 15.5mph.

Can I use an e bike as a conventional bike?

Yes, whilst each bike is slightly different you can choose how much power assistance you wish to receive. Alternatively you can use the bike as a regular bike and save the assistance for hills or getting you home faster if you’ve pedalled further than usual.

Are they safe?

Yes, they hold no more safety concerns than a regular bike, however it’s worth noting you may be travelling faster which will mean you should consider allowing additional stopping times and braking earlier whilst riding.

Are electric bicycles a good option for seniors?

Put simply, power assisted bikes are a great choice for everyone of any age, but the power assisted nature of these bikes does mean it’s ideal for those who require some additional help whilst riding.
